3rd Place Award: 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Frank F. Roselli
2000 Molly's Estate Meritage
The year 2000 was a BIG EVENT year at Villa San Savino! Our first granddaughter, Molly, was born and a stream of visitors from the Old World kept us from....getting bored!. Meanwhile, in the vineyard, things were happening! Our Merlot was harvested on Sept. 15, 2000 at 25.5 degrees brix.... it fermented to a BIG wine with 14.9 % Alcohol. After several rackings and 16 months in second year French oak barrels it was blended with our 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon which, due to unforeseen travel plans, had to be picked a little on the "green side" at a scant 23 degrees brix. The combination of these two Estate wines with some Syrah and Cab Franc gave us the Molly's 2000 Meritage which we are proud to offer for good cause. The blend of Molly's Meritage is: 42% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, and 4% Cabernet Franc. This wine is still young, like our three year old granddaughter, Molly Murphy, who is quite complex and spicy!1999 Cabernet Sauvignon
The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon was made with fruit from our now famous "Villa San Savino Vineyard" with its rocky, mineral rich and well drained soil typical of this excellent, "western exposure" location on the eastern edge of Yountville appellation on Sliverado Trail. Caressed by gentle and rolling afternoon breezes and kissed by incomparable sunsets, the unique "terroir" of this location is reflected in the softness and roundness of this wine. Harvested October 9, 1999 at 23.8 degrees brix, fermented to 0% residual sugar, and 13.6 Alcohol, this wine was aged 16 months in MT+ second year French oak barrels. 10pph (parts per hundred) of 1999 Merlot from our vineyard were added to the barrel six weeks prior to bottling. Bottling took place on March 16, 2001.1998 Merlot
